No Strings Challenge ..... first project finished !!!

I was beginning to think that I would never get this finished ..... it has been sitting in my room waiting for the final machining of the layers which I have finally got round to this afternoon.  So now I am pleased to present my No Strings Challenge Quilt

It is single size and the blocks have strips of Laura Ashley fabrics old and new, Cath Kidston florals, pretty ditsy cottons, some fabrics from swaps with the lovely ladies on the SCC forum, the dark green was an M & S shirt that my husband has never worn and the red gingham is from school dresses acquired from charity shops.

The border is Laura Ashley pink gingham check and it is backed with a lovely Egyptian Cotton in white with pale green stripes .... this is part of a Caroline Charles duvet cover which I purchased at a car boot last year (it was unused and still in original packaging).  I am saving the gorgeous floral side for another project.

This was a fantastic way to use up scraps and as somebody who finds it difficult to throw anything away (I had to force myself to bin the scraps from the edges when I trimmed the blocks!!) I must have known deep inside that they would come in useful one day ;-)

I still have loads more strips in other colours waiting to be sewn together and hope to have some more finished items to share soon.

I hope everyone else has enjoyed this challenge as much as I have .... a big thank you to Loft Creations for the inspiration x

  1. Hi, oh how scary that must have been with your grandson. My late OH had an allergy to eggs all of his life, but he didn't have a problem with egg containing foods such as cake, shop bought mayonnaise, or quiches. My youngest son suddenly developed an allergy to strawberries and tomatoes in his teens. His reaction isn't too drastic though. His tongue swells slightly and it makes him talk like one of the Flowerpot Men! SueXX

  5. This is gorgeous - has it got a home? It just looks as if it smells of fresh laundry, dried in warm sunshine, if you know what I mean. Someone will have sweet dreams tucked up in bed under this.

  8. What a beautiful piece of work. I am playing "catchup" with blogs due to (ongoing) internet problems. Glad the littlie in the previous post is okay after his allergic reaction. Must have been worrying at the time, though.

  9. Wow - love the quilt - it's amazing what you can do with scraps of fabric, isn't it, and it's a good job you did save them and not bin them! Hope the grandson is okay now - thank goodness you live near a surgery and they were able to get hime sorted pronto. btw, am still working on our swap ...

  10. This is so impressive, there is something quite 'smiley, lovely, about a handmade quilt. So sorry to hear about you little grandson and so glad he is OK now. Ha, ha, glad to know I'm not the only one with a man who thinks every shopping trip is some kind of conspiracy!
